Basking docks
Posted: Fri Jan 26, 2007 9:28 amSince Napoleon still will not bask, I'm guessing that he just really doesn't like his dock. I've spent several days at home keeping a close eye on him and he's just not doing it. He will climb up there but immediately dives back off. I've checked my temperatures and made the spot warmer and cooler to see if that was the problem, no luck.
I'm going to ask the vet about it next week, but in the meantime, assuming it's the dock he doesn't like, I'm considering other options. One that looks interesting is this: http://www.reptiledirect.com/index.asp? ... ProdID=732
Does anyone else have this dock? Is it held in place entirely by the suction cups or does it float? If anyone has other pics of it or something like it I'd like to see them.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
EDIT I guess I should specify that his water is roughly 8" deep, which is the only reason I stopped using his old basking rock. I searched to see if I could find a larger version of that, and they make them, but not nearly tall enough. Interestingly, it mentions that they are 'rock-like material and retain heat well' so I'm wondering if maybe that's why he doesn't like the new one. He had the old one for at least 7 years, and maybe he's used to getting heated up from both sides. The foam dock he has now doesn't get anywhere near as warm as the old bridge. Now I'm sort of looking at his old bridge and wondering if maybe somehow I could attach props to the bottom to make it tall enough... this is what it looked like http://www.reptiledirect.com/index.asp? ...
