OKay, 72 inches is longer than I am tall, and I just didn't have room. So I settled for 120 that's 48 inches long. It's wider and taller than the 75. I am really hoping that the extra space will hold off fighting just that much longer. I am hoping the single XP3 can make it until May. Then I will get an additional one. They are up to a little over 3 inches each, so I am hoping I can get away with the single filter for a few more months. Will it be okay?

Well, it just means you will have to more frequent water changes and clean up their waste as it builds up.

What the post above said, but yes, if you are committed to it, then it will be okay.

I think you will be fine. I really like how committed you are to getting your turtle such a big tank! They will love you for it!

Hey! I was in this same predicament before. I assume your debating between the 72x18 and the 48x24? Well, I posted on this forum and another asking for feedback and half of the people said the 72 inch and the other half said the 48 inch. I went with the 24 inch since it allows them to turn around very easily, creating a "never ending tank" Although I believe it was Steve who said that the 72 inch would be better if the turtles were agressive so it'd be easy to seperate them. I have a bias since I've had such a great success with the 120 gallon. (I have an xp3 running also on the 120 and it keeps it clean for quite awhile)

You have just 1 XP3 on it? nice! How big are your turts? If I remember right, they're bigger than my two little guys.

Is it about 48x24x24? I think that would be OK. In my 125, I have and XP3 and an AquaClear 110... seems to be a good combination. In a more squarish tank, I think the XP3 should be able to do a better job, though you may want to keep an eye on the water quality at first.

Are you also getting a stand?

I have 2 male RES, about 5 inches, voracious eater and one sucker fish (pleco) that's grown to a beastly size. It's been about 1 month and my tank is still clear and odor-free, but I also gave in and used that Biomax turtle clean which helps out significantly. It all really comes down to how much work you want to put in, but really the 120 w/ xp3 has been hassle free.

As for stands, the cheapest ones that I found were either home-made ones (of course) or the iron frame kinds...Those commericial wooden stands are really high up there in price, usually more expensive than the tank.

Wonderfully enough, I have an island which is on a load bearing wall, and is about 55 inches long and 25 wide. It has been a perfect stand for the 75 gallon, and will be for the 120 too!
