Not quite...
I came home the other day to find this floating around in the tank:


If you can look close, you can even see the turtle bite mark!


I suppose this also answers the questions of how hard an adult turtle's bite is

Just thought I'd let everyone know, to keep an eye out for small pieces floating around!

i orriginally thought of buying one, but instead i got a fake plant with a solid bottom. luck of the draw on my part!

Thanks for posting that picture. I have never used one of these plants in Sheba's tank because I was always afraid that something like this might happen (she's a monster & eats everything in sight!).

i only have silk plants. i'm working to change that to all live plants, though. the turts don't try to eat any of them (not even the live ones) but it still makes me nervous when i see them nip.

My turtles both have those plants. They investigated at first and nipped a few times, but after determining that they weren't food have completely ignored them since. Napoleon enjoys hunting through his for bits of lettuce that have gotten mixed in. I guess it depends on the turtle! I'm a bit afraid of using silk plants, if they were ever able to get individual strands and eat them...I heard a lot of horror stories about what that can do to an animal's insides a few years ago when my idiot cat swallowed a needle and thread.

My guys never bite them.....

Last night I gave him one of the aquatic potted plants (which I keep switching up, so they have time to regrow) and at first he took a few bites of the grass, then went back to flirting with his rock. When I checked up on him again in a few minutes, he was nipping at the black plastic pot bit

snip that part off with a pair of scissors... I always check my plants too!
