Before I got Myrtle my friend gave me his lamp that he used for his anoles. He bought it from a pet store and I think he got the bulb there too. How can I tell if its a UVB bulb. I looked on it and it says exo terra gun glo.

ps. when I turn it off it glows blue...

Is it a pink bulb? If it is, they are used in terrariums, supposedly to simulate daylight. I don't think they have enough UVB though....

I agree, though I think there is no UVB at all. Can you post a pic or link of the bulb?

If it doesn't say specifically UVB on the bulb, then it probably has no UVB value.

Yea, that's just a regular heat bulb probably with some UVA, but definitely no UVB.

Last time I checked, Big Al's Online had them for about $22 (Reptisun 10.0)

The Petco and Petsmart's prices are pretty outragous if you ask me, Here's a place you can order one pretty cheap:
http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/204474/product.web
Get a 5.0 and follow the instructions (if included). If not, DavidY posted the PDF file with the instructions here:

Good luck.

Wow, $50 is expensive!!! Our Petsmart has the 5.0 for $22 and the 10.0 for $26. I found that out AFTER I brilliantly paid $40 at the small local pet store, lol.

It's amazing how much the prices vary for these types of things, just goes to show you that shopping around can really pay off!
