Pokeylope is about a year old and about 3 inches long now. I told my mom to only feed him about a heads worth but im pretty sure she feeds him way more and was giving into his begging.

now i'm still new to caring for him/her (still not too sure) and at this point i havent really been able to see how much is being eaten each day, at this age and size is a heads worth of pellets each day with some veggies every once in a while still good or should i do more veggies and less pellets now?

Just continue to make sure your feeding him the right amount

DO NOT try and "make up for his extra food"

because he ate too much in the past does not mean he wont be wanting his normal and needed amount of food now

been there. my mom has been caring for my baby while i was away at school.

and she definitely gave into begging.

i had to give him a new strict diet, and yell at my mom.

but first we had to slowly decrease the amount of pellets he got a feeding until after a couple weeks he was at the right amount.

but since i still have been there when i see him hes still a little chubby, so lesson learned - dont trust mothers with turtles .

I work "on the road" 90% of the time, and my Larry lives in my parent's dining room. Every Sunday, she has taken to feeding her a piece of egg off a fork. She knows when Sunday rolls around too...you should see the itssundaygimmeegg! dance.

My mom always gives in to my turtle's begging. its so aggrivating cause i tell her not to feed him, and she does. she says hes so hungry, but he isnt..

Try to balance out pellets and veges
Its still small, so keep going with pellets, but incorporate the veges in as well.
What is your feeding schedule like? Maybe we can help "tweak" it so your turtle will live even longer.

If you have to deal with other people who want to interact with your turtles, set aside some food in a pill box, so once that allocation for the day is gone, they shouldn't give any more. You can also set aside some veggies in the fridge, like sliced up carrots.

The pillbox idea is ingenious. I think I may do that if I ever have someone turtle-sit.

On a more general note, it seems to me that a lot of peoples' moms give in to turtle begging... Hmm.
