So, I've had Tuck for almost a year now. My friends daughter had him, and kept him in a tiny kritter keeper. I begged her every time I went over for her to give him to me, then one day, she finally did! I've been looking at his shell and its curled up around the edges. I don't think this is normal. I was told that I could be over feeding him. Here are some pics of him and any advice is welcome.

looks ok. whatever damage is done is permanent. and i see u only have one bulb. u need a uvb bulb or the shell will just get worse

Oh no there is a uvb, you just can't see it very well. Its on the left side of the tank. Its a repti glow 5.0 flouresent light.

It could actually smooth out over time and once your turtle starts shedding.

I agree with Steve. Also, make sure you start feeding the right amount
immediately. Read up from the main site if you haven't.

I'm a fan of bare-bottom tank. So, my next advice would be, you guessed it, get
rid of the gravels. Apart from being hazardous for your turtle, they make your
water dirty more quickly. More swimming room is always better too.

FWIW we have three RES and one of them has a shell that "flares out" at the end, and it always has, even since I got it as a baby. The others look more typical. We use a UVB/UVA bulb and they bask under a 75w halogen light, they all eat the same, and the flares never seems to change, the turtle just grows.
