Today, I convinced my friend to give me a ride to Petsmart so I could buy some Rosy Red Minnows for 13¢ each, and I wanted to know if I could keep them in 1 gallon ice cream pails. I have two set up right now with old water (no chlorine in it) without filters, but I could feed the feeder fish tropical flakes I have and then just feed one or two to my turtle when I think she needs it. I suppose my main questions are...
1. Can I keep the fish in the one gallon pails if I feed them regularly and clean their pails once a week or whatever?
2. How many can I keep in each pail without them dying on me. I don't really care if they are comfortable since they are just food, you know?

It depends on how many fish there are. One gallon is really small, is there anything larger you can find?

I do have my 20 gallon tank, but I can't really clean it right now. I'll work on it though. But for now, is two one gallon tubs ok?

I work at Petsmart, and lately we have been getting very bad shipments of Rosy reds. So I would ask the pet care associate of your petsmart how good their rosy reds are, if they have been experiencing a lot of loss then I would only buy as many as you want to feed at a time. They are kept at a lower temperature then the tropical fish, so I don't see a problem with keeping them in the bail as far a temperature goes, if you really want to keep them alive longer get an air pump to get more oxygen in the water. You'll need to buy tubing and an air stone to go along with it.

they need a sir stone for sure becauase the rosy's die really quick without the air bubble..
