Just wondering- I'm going to try Googling in a second- if there's any benefit to feeding my RES coconut? I've got a co worker at work who is facsinated by the fact that I have an 18 year old RES and she's always offering to bring me stuff to feed him with. I've kindly explained I'm very cautious with his diet (its worked for 18 years) and I'm very hesitant to try new things, but she's insistent on bringing me coconut for him. I told her I'd look into it and see if it was ok for a RES...though my intention is probably going to be to accept it from her and then fib about actually giving it to Trevor. I know, I feel bad, but I've been trying for 2 weeks to nicely say "thanks but no thanks" and she's just not cluing in.

Any info?

I've given my turtles coconut scraps when I've made pies before and it was fine. You just have to think of it as a fruit treat because it's got a high sugar content, so it couldn't be a regular food. Raw coconut is pretty fibrous and sticky, so they like to chew on it and you can dip it in a calcium dust and it stays on.
