i bought a RES about a month and a half ago from a pet store so I have absolutely no idea how old he is but he's about the size of my palm(not including fingers). And so far the only thing I've fed him since I got him is the reptisticks but I don't think he's getting proper nutrition..this is my first turtle and the pet store did not give me any instruction. I'm just wondering what I should be feeding him to make sure he's getting all the nutrition he needs (without getting too big because then he might not fit in the aquarium any more.
I need to know what food I should be giving him, if I need to give him a variety and what is best for him and also how much of it I should be feeding him. I've been giving him 10 reptisticks a day so far, but he's always hungry for more.

If you didn't see it already, here's a big guide about feeding (details about what to feed, how much and how often, etc.):

You can also see a ton of peoples' feeding schedules here:

There's also a cool "jello shot" recipe that has made feeding much more convenient:

I would feed a little everyday (as much food as can fit into about 1/3 of the turtle's head), and rotate between vegetables and pellets, with the occasional protein treat. Check the links above for lists of what kind of veggies are best for turtles. You might also look into another brand of sticks/pellets (Omega One seems highest quality, but Mazuri is good to); even if the current sticks are fine, it probably can't hurt to have some variety.

As far as the turtle getting bigger, I really wouldn't recommend limiting his feeding to prevent that. Most of the overgrowth that happens from overfeeding is "pyramiding" that makes their shells bulge in spots, but it's natural for them to get longer and wider as they grow up. Most people on this site have probably had to upgrade their tank size at least once!

He'll always be hungry (or at least, that's what I understand). How long is he? Pellets should be the staple diet but you should also feed some vegetables.
