Since we've had Leo he has been fed ZooMed floating pellets for hatchlings... I can't find them anywhere around here though! Only the ZooMed floating pellets for adult turtles- recently I bought some floating sticks (small- for baby turtles) but I really don't like the idea of changing up his food on him! any advice? can changing food on a turtle cause problems?

I don't think changing food causes any physical problems per se. The turtles have their preferences, though. If your turtle really liked what he was getting he might not appreciate having to adjust to something new. On the other hand, maybe he'll like the new pellets better. Spot has a decided preference for Reptomin. He was raised on the Zoo Med pellets for hatchlings and when he outgrew them I tried several different kinds until we hit on Reptomin.

I vary between pelleted foods because I think it provides a variety of nutrients. Changing thier food isn't hard on the GI tract like it is with dogs and cats. My kids like the Reptomin baby the best, followed by Hikari turtle sticks, and they started on Zoomed baby pellets, but those are actually thier least favorite of the three I rotate. If you see the Reptomin baby, I would highly recommend it!

I'm sure you can find Reptomin baby online. The only problem with changing food is the chance that your turtle refuses to eat. Other than that I don't see a problem.

You can prolly find his fav food online & order it thru the mail!

Changing food periodically is good for a turtle so don't worry....they aren't like dogs or cats. You can feed turtles all sorts of different things, and the only thing that will happen is that they always seem to want more and more food!!! LOL

JNCBZ..., mix the pellets (new and old), but start with a greater proportion of the pellets he's used to. Gradually switch the proportion as he accepts the new pellets, until his just eating the new ones. You can help prevent your turtle from fixation on one brand of food (and provide variety) by alternating a few brands of pellets.

You should mix it up a little. I alternate Reptimin, Nutra-fin and Zoo-Med. If your are worried that the pellets are too large for your guy, just pre-soak them to soften them up a little.....
