I am upgrading my 20 gallon long tank to a 180 gallon tank that is 24inches wide 72 inches long by 24inches high need some good advice on some filtration that can handle that size tank for my two 1 1/2" res sliders

what kind of floor are you keeping them in it would have to be concrete to suport all that wieght

Nice upgrade. An Eheim (2028 or larger), Rena XP4 or possibly a Fluval FX5. You need to compare them to decide which is best for your situation.

Do plan on keeping the tank filled to the top or less than that?

my tank was purchased at Arcadia pet shop staten island n.y. --i am keeping my tank in a finished basment on a concret slab--not sure if i am going to fill up all the way with warter or keep 1/2 ful for now i would like to purchase a filter that is large enough to use in case i descide to fill up all the way or keep it 1/2 full--- -- do you think a large filter would be to powerful if i kept it half ful? i am waiting for tank to be shiped to me when i get it i will post pictures here are some pictures of my 20gal long wich i will use as a feeder tank because they are use being fed in this set up

You could get away with any of the filters Marisa mentioned. Your turtles are still small and that much water volume should stay pretty good. You might want to add a bubbler at the opposite end of the tank to help with the circulation.

How can you tell if you should be concerned about something like that.

When was your house built? Calculate about how much the weight would be with the tank, stand and number of gallons of water it would have in it (a gallon of water weighs about 8.33 pounds).

You want to worry about it when you have a bigger tank and you aren't putting on a supported floor. Generally (unless the floor is reinforced like for a bathtub) normal second floors cannot support 100 gallon tanks. It's always good to ask instead of coming home and waving to your downstairs neighbors while they swim in what used to be your tank.

My tank was going to put in on my first floor, against a wall. So, I went into my basement and checked where the tank would be, half the tank would be supported by the concrete walls of the basement, and for the other 2 legs of the tank I bought a couple floor jacks, @ $20 each.

i purchased the filstar xp4 filter tank is ariving thurs. filter should arive by then also . trying to find a good heater for 180 gallon tank all heaters seem to be for 100 gallon and less any suggestions

Use multiple heaters. It's also a good idea in case one breaks since it won't affect the temperature as quickly. If it stops working the other heaters will keep the temps near where it should be until you replace the broken one. If one of them gets stuck on it won't cook the tank as quickly as one giant heater would so hopefully you catch it in time and unplug it before it gets too hot.
