Do you guys think that a ReptoFilter is a good filter to have for turtles? I use it in my tank and it works pretty well. It is specially designed for turtles.

From the quick glance that I got online, it doesn't look that great. For turtles, you need a filter that is rated 2-3 times the size of the tank. And since you have three turts, I would lean towards 3X. So if you don't get a bigger tank, your filter should be rated for a 60 gallon. I, however, would recommend getting a pretty big (40-55) gallon tank and getting a canister filter. That should last you for about a year.

An XP3 (canister) is an excellent filter for a tank the size of what you need. They are powerful and easy to operate and maintain.

The Reptofilter may seem OK for now because your turtles are small, but it really is an inadequate filter and you will see this as your turtles grow and produce more waste. You said in another post you have a 20-gallon now? You're looking at an upgrade in the not-too-distant future. Along with a bigger tank, look into a canister, which will have a lot of room for biomedia (which will encourage beneficial bacteria to grow and will help keep up the water quality).

I had one, it was alright, but wouldn't use it for long since the cartridges get gross in a week and even with rinsing you will be replacing them often.

I just got a reptifilter in today from foster and smith and it wasn't as powerful as I thought. I'm hoping it'll do ok for now until I get a better filter. I have a 20 gallon long right now with 1 res, but it's only filled maybe 2/3 of the way with water. It seems to be ok, but I don't know, it wasn't too much money, so I'm guessing I'll get what I pay for. Wishing I had done more research before buying the filter.

UHH!!! I have gotten 2 filters now, reptofilter, and the cascade internal filter 400. They both suck!!! I have a 20 gallon tank, but really dont know what to get. Should i save up for an xp3 or something??

I think the problem is more you have too much turtle for the tank, and the water is just too dirty for any filter to handle. RES are pretty dirty, which is one of the many reasons you're going to need a lot of tank space for them.

but what kind of filter should i get?

Basically everyone on the forum recommends the Filstar XP line of canister filter.
