heater recomondation for 100 gallon stock tank

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone with a similar setup can offer me up some good advice. I'm upgrading to a 100 gallon stock tank and my JV slider is outgrowing its current bin. I've been researching heaters, but it seems most of them are only rated to about 90 gallons. I would prefer not to use two heaters if I don't have to (especially as my current heater is on the recall list). The house gets down to probably 55 degrees at night in the winter, so not too too cold. Anyone got a reliable brand they like for a 100 gallon setup? I'm thinking I might be able to sneak by with a 300W, but I have seen a few heaters ranked up to the 500W category (however, I can't find any reputable reviews on them). Also, if anyone else is using a stock tank and has made them look pretty, I would love to see. :)

Thanks!

-Tara

Hi Tara, welcome to the site! I got by with a 200W Ebo Jager in a 100 gallon stock tank, though there were only about 60 gallons of water in there. I would add another heater during very cold periods. As VeipaCray pointed out, get the largest one that will fit your tank and the 200, 250 and 300 watt models are all the same price - $32.99 at http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/p ... atid=22042

Tara, are you using a Marineland Stealth Pro heater?

I have the 300W version of that. I looked it up to link it to you, but apparently it's under recall.

It's worked very good and I really like it. Is it seriously that hard to make a heater that works? This one hasn't failed yet, but I've have had 3 that have.

Good think about ponds....no need for heaters!!!!! Lol
Even in the winter. But I live in az. Im sure there are other places that require heaters even in ponds. I can't help ya as far as heaters go because I dont know anything about heaters nor do I really ever use them. Even on my fishtanks cuz the house gets pretty hot sometimes since its a 70 year old brick house.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies and tip on the heater deal! @TexasJagFan. Yep, I have one of the Marineland Stealth heaters that have been recalled. It's only a 200W, so I think I would have needed an upgrade anyway. :)
