Hello
recently found that "pre-filter" for external Eheim their canisters. If I'm not mistaken it is comptativel with all canisters, except for models with heating (e). Anyone seen this product? I am thinking of buying 2 for my 2080, so I could use the three baskets for biological filtration. I liked it because with that plastic grille there is no risk of the turtle eating the foam. I think that I can greatly facilitate the maintainability since the the canister will need to be open over longer intervals.
I would like opinions on this.

The pre-filter in question is this:

You can probably do what you're describing but is it necessary?

It would be much more practical to clean the mechanical filtration. Open the filter at longer intervals is also a good thing. Considering the low cost of this pre-filter is a good think.

Also there is the possibility of making a homemade version (DIY). I think excluding the filter FX5 who has already been an excellent mechanical filter, can be a good alternative to improve filtering. For example, it would be interesting to use the three baskets XP3 for a biological filter, and using a pre-filter like the Eheim for the mechanical filtration?
I found the idea interesting, what do you think?

There will still be a collection of solid waste in the canister. It's definitely an interesting idea, I'm not sure if current designs really solve the problem.

I wouldn't use this with a turtle. Yes it's easier to clean but it will trap things inside the tank that normally would get trapped inside the canister. Turtle waste for example. Sometimes turtles will eat or rummage through their own solid waste. I would want to get this out of the tank and away from your turtle as fast as possible.
