I'd say it's preferable to pretreat the water, otherwise let the filter take the hit. RES are not as sensitive to chlorine/chloramines as fish.

Yes I run both. The 6 has purigen, carbon and ceramic rings. The 5 just has ceramic rings. Both have all the sponges.

Okay here are some pics there was only 2 problems

1. No support bracket came with it but I did buy one to another brand that fitted
2. The posting on page one said 5/8 well mine took 3/4
For my 50 foot hose I needed 3/4 (threaded) to 1/2 hose

Works fine no leaks I did do a test before and after full blast yours judge

Rjs - looks great! Thanks for adding the pics. How has it been working for you now that you've had it for a month or so?

What part of Chicagoland are you from? (hello neighbor!)

I read through the entire thread and it looks like a great idea, but I have a few questions. So in between uses the carbon sits there wet with no flow, basically stagnant. Would this not promote bacterial growth. How cost effective is this say compared to Reptisafe? Thanks

If you think about it at also just sits there in a whole house system that people drink the water out of. I don't use any chemicals like reptisafe.
