So, I THINK I narrowed it down to the ReptiGlo 5.0 compact and the Reptisun 5.0 compact. Which one is better? I think most of the stores around my house carry the ReptiGlo.

Same thing happened with me, except that all the stores (with the exception of 1-3 small shops on the other side of town which I did not check) in my city did not have the ReptiSun Compact UVBs at all, all they had were the Exo-Terra ReptiGlo UVB Compacts, so I instead bought a ReptiGlo 10.0 and I'm using it now. I can't really comment on its performance, since I don't have one of those things that measures UVB output, but it seems that my turtles are enjoying their basking and do it frequently.

If I had the choice, I'd go to ReptiSun, since most people here have tried it and it is a pretty good quality product, but from my point, ReptiGlo is a good second alternative if ReptiSun isn't available.

Is yours the compact version?

Yes, the Exo-Terra ReptiGlo 10.0 UVB Compact. I chose the 10.0, because it has a higher UVB output (you never know when you may need more UVB, for less, just hang the lamp up higher), but I assume the 5.0 will have similar results.

Reptisuns, particularly the tube flourescents, have a good reputations. If you have a choice, the Reptisuns are better.

The Reptisuns compact fit into a normal socket correct?

Yes, the compact flourescents will fit into a normal socket.
