I bought a tank at a flea market, and I think it's about 20gal.
I wanted to hear your suggestions as to what would be a good fliter to use with this size tank.

I have pictures of it if that makes it any easier.

I am thinking you might have a 30 gallon there. I ahve a 20 long, and it looks as long and wide, but taller.

The XP1 or XP2? If it is 30? If it is a 20 long, you might look at non cannister filters.

I just installed my Xp2 in a 30 breeder and Numa is having a bit of a time swimming if I don't keep it throttled down a lot. However, I think that the turt is doing better now as he swims more now with the filter than before. Mind you, Numa is maybe 3 weeks old, judging by the shell we found next to the dentist, but the turt is doing fine. If you have a small tank, I would suggest a slower flowing setup as your turt might have a bit of trouble with the current.

I had my Fluval 205 in a 20 gal tank before i got my 40 gal and it worked great, it wasn't too much current, although it could have bee a little much for a very small turtle.

The mesh top that I bought, which fits it perfectly says it's for a 20 Long/29 Gal, also 12"x30".

Honestly, the more I look around for filters, the more confused I get.
Are the Zoo Med ones any good?

My biggest issue is that I don't have a very high budget, I could go a little past a hundred dollars, but not much.

Would these work well?

Both of those filters are good and I think many on here use them. The Fluval4+ goes right in the tank which may work better if you are using a screen top.

If possible I'd skip the 4+---if you've got a 20L, it will take up a lot of room in the tank and possibly create a current that will make it harder for smaller turtles to swim.

I've got a 20L and have used an Aquaclear 70 in it. But I didn't use a screen that covers the whole tank, and the filter just hhung off the side of it. It creates a waterfall, which, if you find too noisy, you can tame with some plexiglass siliconed to the lip.

I'd go with the Aquaclear. They hang on the outside of tank, so they don't take up space in the tank. They also have room for bio media and/or chemical media, both of which can help with water quality.
