Anyone have the tetrafauna Aquatic Reptile Heater? If so were you satisfied with it and how long did it take yours to start up? Exactly 24 hours?

Submersible water heaters are usually on until they maintain the temperature you set it to. So, I'm not sure what you mean by 24hrs.. do you mean that it achieved the temperature you set it at in 24hrs? In which case, that depends on the water volume and original temperature.

No, its because it sed to wait 24 hours for it to reach desired temp but it stayed cold so im begining to get worried about my turts. Im gona wait another 24 and use it as if i just got it.

What I would assume is the right temp is usually warmer then what the right temp actually feels like..kwim. I have an underwater stick on temperature gage and go from there. The water doesn't feel like it's 78 to me but that's what the temp sticker says.

get a thermometer

Dont' go by feel or by the setting on the heater. The cheaper heaters can be off by a few degrees sometimes and feeling the water by hand will not give you any kind of accurate measurement.

Is this the heater that comes with a heater guard on it? How many gallons of water are you trying to heat?

it comes with a heater guard and im trying to heat up about 6-7 gallons(I dont really fill up my whole tank, i leave it off by about 3 gallons cuz my turtles love trying to escape)

I have a thermometer; the temp is so low it doesnt even light up anymore...

I went today to the store where I bought the item (petland) and they took a look at it. It turns out that the heater was damaged because the new one i got(the same model) worked in a short bit of time. I left the house for a few hours and then came back and the thermometer said the water was at 80-82 degrees(the heater is preset to make the water 78-86 degrees at all times.

More proof is that now my turtles eat more and are more active and lively than before. They seem happier too which is a good thing

DavidY and berkleykc, you guys are right. The water feels nothing like 82 degrees but the thermometer says that it is.

i had this heater in the past, it seems cool, made for turts and what not..but i dont like the fact that you cannot adjust the temperature...i had problems with mine (wouldnt keep a steady temp.) and i returned it and got a tronic 150..i also hear that ebo jabers are great..but if yours works fine..then do you!..peace
