Yes, most of the problems are related to compact fluorescents. Do make sure that instructions are closely followed.

this is a cross post but after reading all about these problems i need some answers.

how exactly do they cause problems. i have a 10.0 uvb compact bulb that is at the moment filtered through glass (glass is from a hagen fishtank).

however when i fit the lamps to the atba properly they will not be filtered but they will sit 22 inches above the basking spot.

will this cause any problems.

It goes into detail here: http://www.uvguide.co.uk/phototherapyphosphor.htm

Glass will filter out any UVB your bulb is giving off (negating any benefit to your turtle).

Stay awat from the Zillas! My RES was miserable with swollen eyes. If it wasn't for this site I don't know what would have happened. Luckily someone told me about the cod liver oil and it worked wonders!

Cod liver oil is to treat swollen eyes due to a vitamin deficiency, the UVB issue is explained in the link above.

There should be a sticky on photo-kerato-conjunctivitis and UVB-seems to be a hot topic and many turtles have been the victim. :( http://www.uvguide.co.uk/phototherapyphosphor.htm

quick question,

I just bought a Exo Terra Repti Glo 5.0 Compact Fluorescent bulb 26W

my turtle is about 1.6inches

i see it basking and chilling... but here is what i notice:

since the bulb sticks a bit out/off from the Fluker's Porcelain Clamp Lamps - http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.j ... Id=2753959

The habitat is on top of my desk in my room, so when the light is on...it really bother my eyes... after 5mins i cannot take it anymore...
what should i do? hahahahaah

i noticed my turtle basking and sometimes with its eyes shut... i only had it for 3days... HELP ! I DONT WANT FUTURE PROBLEMS...

here is some info about my set up and what i current have in it: http://www.redearslider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25997

here is a pic of my current set-up:

It really would be better to start another thread. This one started out being for the Reptisun...

I don't think this specific one has caused any problems. Remember to do a burn-in and keep an eye out for any changes.

please read the instruction Manuel with you lights!!!!!! 150 hour burn in period with the CFLS they need to be double distance till after the burn in. same thing with the linears. i will say that in 2006-2008 exoterra had issues witht the CFLS but has since been fixed (they where coated improperly)

so this is the correct distance DURING BURN IN?

Aluminum clamp lamp fixture During burn-in (without screen cover) - 15-17” (38-43cm)

here's my set-up:

since i'm still on my burn in period (just bought the lamp yesterday), i should increase the height of the reptisun UVB lamp, right?
then i should lower it to 12-14” (30-36cm) after the burn it period. is that correct?

thanks!

Don't those lamps have the white finish? If so, I think you're fine.
