Re: RES with neurological damage!!!!

I'm here for the same reason. My terrapin snaps for food but misses it totally. My hunch is that she has a vitamin A deficiency because I've battled for years to have her accept veges in her diet. I hope Momo made it. I've finally found some turtle pellets that she likes with vitamins in them and ho...

Re: Turtle pneumonia - Recovery Process

... we talked about RI (and most people have moved onto the Facebook page) but a symptom would be listing or swimming in circles. It could also be neurological but the lump is of concern. How "severe" is his sideways swimming? I wouldn't be overly concerned about the head twitches unless ...

Re: Skittish RES

... room and move it to a corner that's more private for her. I think the bonking was more of a accidental result of a flight response as opposed to a neurological issue.

Re: Possible sickness & filter question

Listing could be a symptom, definitely not something to be ignored. It has been linked to respiratory infection (one lung fills with fluid) or a neurological condition (coordination problems). Without other symptoms, I would continually keep a close eye on him. What't the water temperature? Are ...

Re: RI

I would't dismiss the idea of a neurological issue but maybe antibiotics will help. Good luck with the vet. I still thought it was a neurological issue for a while until he started opening his mouth for breathing. Oh well, guess I'll find ...

... that you increased the water level a bit and discovered what you reported above in not spinning anymore, I need to agree with Steve that it is not neurological at this point but the tank set up needed to be adjusted and it still may need to be tweaked some. I believe by doing so, you will see another ...

Re: Unable to surface?

My previous experience with a neurological case is that it is not something they are born with. I'm sure there are some cases of it happening, but that's not what we're dealing with here. Does he have trouble tracking and picking his food?

Re: Unable to surface?

... is always better to deal with situations naturally before medical treatment. But I would still go with your plans on the filtration to determine a neurological disorder. But the bubble issue, it seems very minor at this point... Great observation Red.

Re: Unable to surface?

There very well could be a RI going on without question and in regards to a neurological disorder you are right in kinda both ways that it could occur at anytime really. More so during the incubation period in the egg prior to hatching but it does occur sometimes ...
