the top of my tank is 4' 6" off the ground, and I'm 6' tall so I don't get blinded by it very much, unless I sit down at my chair in my room, then I look up at the tank and get blinded when I see if hes basking or not. haha

Haha yep!
Heres some pictures to show how I cut it, the little squares in each corner are to protect if the lamp falls over, there is no way the light could go in the water, and for stability.

That's a good idea! I wish eggcrate didn't look so ugly to me so I could use it as a cover right now! I'm planning on getting some chicken wire and cut it so it will go all the way across the tank and have it be bent on the sides so it will be raised up from the tank. Right now I had to bend the chicken wire that's on there so he can bask!

I put a custom eggcrate screen on my moms 55 gal, it actually looks pretty good once you have it all on and fitted.

But i have seen it spray painted black, so you could do that.

I have the same light and you are right, it's insanely bright! I had to be sure to point it away from all human eyes as looking at it is blinding.
