Aha hmm yea it could be that too, actually leaning towards that now. Can you take a pic of the bottom of its shell. If its pure yellow a peninsula if its slightly red maybe some marking its a florida red-belly

im looking at ybs and florida red belly, and he kind of looks like both, i cant decide what he looks more like. this is confusing i must say, i dont know why the pet store told me he was a ybs. i have a care sheet for a ybs, would a care sheet for a red belly be more suitable?

Oh yea, peninsula cooter for sure. From the photo of the bottom of his shell the black spots around the rim are not all around like a red belly or a ybs just to throw that back in.

As for care btw, no different then a res. Everything is the same. Just expect him to get much bigger then your res, thats the only down side

Sorry to bring back a month old topic, but spongebob is neither a yellow bellied slider, or a FL redbelly. He is a peninsula cooter. They are often mis-labeled as yellow bellies do to the fact that have bright yellow bellies.
