Well it turns out the place where I bought little Mikey from in the mall was turned in. So it was up on the news in that area that all persons who bought a turtle at this place are to return them asap.

Umm..I'm sorry but I'm not going to return Mikey. I've had Mikey for a week now and I'm very attached to him. Plus, ok I know I didn't know about the 4 inch law..but still I knew he had Salmonila and to be careful around him. But to give Mikey back??? Umm how about NO.

Plus what do I get back out of the deal...just my money back. That's not worth it to me to just hand Mikey over to some stranger to do who knows what with him. Like they are going to be all nicey nice with him..yeah right.

And Mikey was a gift to me, and so I don't really want to give him back for that reason to. Even though the person who got me Mikey heard the newscast and told me, but they even knew that I wouldn't give him back.

There's just no way I could let him go back to whoever would take him away from me. So they'll just have to come find me and pry him out of my lifeless hands for all I care, cause I'll fight to keep him. And if I do get Salmonila..I won't ever blame it on him, cause it'll be my fault for not being more careful.

But seriously...why make everyone return their turtles? They aren't offering us the 4 inch ones, it's just give us your turtle and we'll give you your money back. That's a lame deal to begin with. Plus like I said, I'm attached to Michelangelo now, and he is my little baby, so how can you say I'll give you 25.00 for that turtle that you bought when he's like family to me now?

I don't blame the people for turning those guys in but there's just no way I'm going to hand Mikey over. What would you guys do?

I'd do the same. They can't expect people to just give up their pets because these morons at the mall didn't feel like following the law. It's good that they shut them down.

If anyone does bring them back, I won't understand. Like here, in Ontario, they banned pit bulls. If you already had one you could keep it, but you can't breed them or sell/buy them anymore. People were actually turning in their dogs!! I'll never understand that, especially when they KNOW that any pit that's turned is will be destroyed.

Keep mikey..it's not like they'll be able to track you down, and even if they did, the law applies to the sellers, not the owners.

There is no way I'd be giving my turtle back just to be destroyed. I agree with jenaero it's a good thing they are getting shut down but mine wouldn't be going back.

That's the important part to remember. It isn't illegal for you to have one, and I don't think by law that they can make you give it up. What's done is done, and at least Mikey is in a better place now than he was. My guess is that there was no paper work ever filled out either, I know I didn't and mine is under 4 inches, so like mentioned before, they really can't track it. My best guess is that the plea to return them is an effort to correct what they did wrong and that they really don't even care if they get them back. Sad as that sounds.

Yep I had no paperwork to fill out at all. I just paid for the turtle and food and tahdah. Plus to just even think that they might put him down or just say be free and leave him at the hand of fate in nature just isn't what I want.

Plus he's just a tiny little guy, he needs someone to watch over him. But hopefully no one takes back the turtles. I know when I bought mine that no one had bought any before me that day as I hung around debating on it, and then it was bought as a gift for me. But then everyone wanted one when they saw me holding Mikey. So maybe after I left people bought some more. I was offered two turtles, but I just didn't know how well they all would get along. Now I wish I would have gotten two. But oh well what is done is done.

there was a 'special' the day I bought mine. "buy the container, get two free"...my mother bought me two. Pheobe and Penelope get along great, but in a very short while they are going to need a bigger tank.

Providing the best home for Mikey is what is most important. If you can do provide all his needs, then he is better off with you.

The day I got mine it was buy one get the second for 10.00. Well I had been given 20.00 to get Mikey, and I paid 6 for his hatchling food, and I was like it would cost me 36.00 for another turtle, plus I was going to have to get them tanks etc etc..so I figured nah..Mikey was enough.

I wouldn't give him back. Not to mention you are not the only one who will keep the turtle. Not to mention the people who didn't even see the news cast.

Just today at church a lady told me that she had heard an announcement on tv about giving back turtles if you bought one. As I am also from Ohio, I am not that close to you, so I imagine that it was in reference to the place where I purchased mine. Also, he is no longer in business here. I was going to go play dumb and ask questions, then give him a piece of my mind. I'm sorry that I didn't get the opportunity. I know that it wouldn't have done much good, but I would have felt better!

They expect us to give them back because one, we technically bought them illegally, two, they care illnesses that humans can get.

And yeah I went back to where I bought mine to not even a week later. The little stand was gone. Not even a sign around saying where you take the turtles you bought or nothing. And like you I was going to play dumb. Cause I didn't have Mikey with me. But I didn't see it anywhere.

But if it was there I was going to ask for their huge tank. Course that huge tank was probably only 50 gallons and housed probably over 200 hundred turtles. So there yah go.

The reason whey they are putting this on the news and the saying "give the turtle back" is so you won't go around and sue the company if you get sick just to pack money. THat is what the company is freaking out for now. I don't blame them, they get what they give.

Congrats on some redcross action! TURTLE SALUT!

Yeah, Turtle Bot that makes a lot of sense. They probably don't even care about the turtles, they just care about watching their rears.
