Another update! She (my Judy) is onto her 5th clutch. Has been restless the past couple of days and is going to my aunt's again tonight for the digging ritual... For those not keeping track, it has been 2 weeks and a day since laying her forth. I have to say, at least she is consistent... ;)

She laid them last night. Dug them up this morning. There were nine... Let's hope she's done for the season... :(

Post Posted: Fri May 18, 2012 4:24 pm   Will my RES egg ever hatch?

I have a 85 day old RES egg that seemed to be fertile and growing inside fine. When candled I could see movement and growth up until about 55 days in. I have checked on the egg from time to time and have yet to see any signs of hatching. It has been 85 days since the egg was laid. I have another egg that was laid 61 days ago and started hatching this morning. Should I give the first egg more time or could it be... what I rather not say. :(

Doesn't sound good, I would keep it away from the others.

It has been separate. Going to give it until day 90 and if nothing happens, I will remove and discard the egg. The other is moving around in its broken egg shell, looks like the yolk is about half way absorbed so far. Will probably grace us with its presence in the next day or so. Cutest thing! :)

This was taken Friday night. Just chillin' in the egg shell. Breathing normal, moving its little feets around~ I am starting to think it might be vitamin A deficient, hasn't opened its eyes yet... What do you think?

Here is another one from this morning. It seems a little dry and wrinkled. It still has the yolk sack, looks like it is almost absorbed. Can I poor water directly on it to hydrate it a little?

I am starting to think it might have come out too early...

Eyes are open and then closed them again.. Think he just needed some light. Put him indirectly under the basking lights and he seems to have really pepped up. Got a dropper and wet him a little, seemed to enjoy that too kept smelling the paper towel~ :)

I think when he starts eating, he will improve. Going to get some cod liver oil and zoo med eye drops like you suggested in another post. Wouldn't hurt to have it on hand.

I understand. Been reading up and looking at numerous photos and videos of newly hatching RES and have noticed most of them are slightly larger than mine. I think he was too eager to come out so he is a little premature. I have the cod liver oil capsules, which has both vitamin A and D, and will use a drop or so sparingly over the next couple of days. Don't want to use too much since he is just a baby. I think he slept through the night, but he did move from the spot I left him in. He has a little yolk sack left, will get a picture of that and post it. Should be gone by today or tomorrow. Been giving him a shower via dropper, with conditioned water, every couple of hours just so he doesn't dry out. After his sack has absorbed completely going to take him for his first swim. Going to go slowly, gradually giving him more water to swim in and such, hopefully within a week or so he will have matured enough for his tank. As far as his eyes, they aren't swollen, just closed most of the time. Thinking that has to do with the vitamin deficiency.

Post Posted: Mon May 21, 2012 10:32 am   Sack it almost gone! :)

He started moving around when I turned the basking light back on this morning. The heat dropped to about 75-76, a little cold for the baby, but didn't want to keep him up all night. Back up to 78 in the indirect light.

Here's the sack, almost absorbed. Soon he will be swimming and eating... I hope. ;)
