how should i transport the turtle for a long car ride? lets say 3 hours or so.... im getting a second turtle and well lets just say the first way we used kinda seems cruel to do....should i get a lil tiny tank and(half gallon or so) and put some water in that and go from there?

I would use like a cooler or something, and place damp paper towls at the bottom.

It's best not to transport them in water. They'll get jostled around and possibly hurt. Use any kind of dry container with airholes and damp towels to keep him moist. Don't use the air conditioner in your car either. You want to make sure he'll be warm enough for the ride.

also check for poop because they will try to eat it and cannot swallow it so be prepared for that. damp paper towels are not necessary but something soft... shredded newspaper is ok. if you can provide darkness, your turt might nap the whole trip

awesome thanks guys im getting my second turtle on sunday and i have another 3 hour car ride i didnt want to leave it in a bag(paper) but i guess thats an easy way to do it.

I'd also give him a towel/cloth to burrow under. If you keep the container dark/ covered (with air holes, of course), he'll sleep and the ride will be less stressful for him.

I made a 1000 mile relocation I got a walmart container put towels in the bottom with a hot water botel for heat. three days and three hotels all worked out fine. I let her swin in the bathtub at night. Turtles seem very durable, third move for her. SC to IN to OH to upstate NY.

Oh, just in case, never leave the turt in the car alone with all the windows closed. Temps can soar up to 10 degrees or more in just five minutes.

ok hes in the tank with torque and them 2 look so cute together...sadly gimpy is going to his new home in abou tan hour or 2...my buddy wants a turtle and i want a new(larger tank) so hes giving me a 30 gal for gimpy, and putting gimp in his 150 gal so i figure gimpy moves up i move up torque moves up were all happy....so i guess i get an hour with the kids then im down to one again.

as for transporting him i got a lil half gallon container and put some rock in it and filled it up with some water and went with it he seemed happy for the trip

When I brought my turt home the place I got him from put him in a little container with holes and a squirt of water. I wish I would of known this when I brought him home. I bet he was nervous.

I use a box a little bit bigger than the diameter of the turtle, place some paper towels and poke in some hole at the top. I usually find the head buried under the paper towels

That's why if you have a bigger container it's good to give them a cloth to burrow under. It gives them more security and is less stressful. They'll also probably sleep since it's dark.
