I've been having red ear sliders for 21 years now, and my last one exhibits very weird, almost like a psychopatic behaviour. So every time I pass the aquarium my red eared slider goes literally crazy. Very much like a crazy dog that jumps on you when you come back from work. My red ear slider does this every time now, and I honestly hate that. I know I shouldn't, but it really gets on my nerves! She never did this before. She's sooo voracious and always always hungry like it haven't seen food for years. But IMO we might give her too much food and she knows fully well by now how to attract people's attention, mainly my family members... they do feed her at times, unbeknowst to me just "out of mercy" so to speak, that sometimes she indeed gets overfed.
I try to give her food regularly. sometimes every day, sometimes every other day. I think, I noticed giving food every other day slows her voracity a bit, but it may just be my impression, maybe that is not the cause. It's really unbelievable how she It's going crazy every time anyone passes the aquarium splashing the water all around and some times even on the lamp, that's is kinda protected, but it still manages to ruin the UV bulb and then I have to throw it away. Although that didn't happen as of late, there is always that risk involved.
However the bulb is not my main problem. The main problem is her acting, I just can't accept her behaviour will be like this from now on, I want to change this somehow. Like I said I've had turtles for 21 years now and I ever had to deal with such an issue. This turtle is just unbelievable, makes me so nervous. Another thing she started to doing is whenever she sees me pick up her food, she goes double crazy and when I try to feed her, she just wants to catch the food in mid-air opening her mouth and looking at the food dropping from the sky, meanwhile splashing around like a possessed turtle from hell. Yea, sounds about right, LOL :D
Sorry for the long post, also english is not my native language, can somebody please give me advice on what to do...?

She just knows how to beg properly. You just have to not give in and sometimes just ignore that behavior. Now, my turtles know exactly when feeding time is and usually behave up until it's breakfast or dinner (I feed veggies in the morning and some pellets at night).

Thanks, believe me, I do try to ignore her, sometimes even as much that I "forget" about her for a couple of days. But I don't give her food always at the same time of the day. I also got the advice not to feed her for entire weeks, but I'm not sure if that's the right one.

Some people have wildly different ways of keeping and feeding RES. I'd try to be consistent with feeding times at least. As for long periods of time of not feeding, I guess it depends on the meals but I think small amounts daily work out better.
