Post Posted: Mon Apr 01, 2013 4:19 pm   hello! :)

My name is Emily and my RES's name is Mr Bean. I got him when I was a little kid for Christmas. My grandma gave him to me in a Styrofoam take-out box, and he came with a plastic container to live in and some starter pellets.

Mr Bean's shell is about 5.5 inches long now, and I'm not sure how old he is.. can't remember the exact year I got him but I think he's about 12 now. He was in a tank that was obviously too small for a while when I was little, and not given the best diet (he ate mostly pellets, then some hamburger meat, bologna.. ). He's been getting lettuce and carrots with his pellets for a few years now, and his tank is bigger. I'm trying to give him a better life now that I'm graduated from college and home for a little while before going back to get my Master's.

I've looked around this site for info before and read some of the threads. You all seem helpful and nice :) I'll post a couple pictures of my cute guy after I get some uploaded :D

Here are a few photos. I like letting him out of the tank to walk around, and it's easier to take photos that way.

Welcome to the forum!
He is adorable!
It may be the angle, but his shell looks a bit pyramid-like. Just continue watching the diet and amount of food intake. You may want to try a a different staple in his diet other than lettuce.

Thanks! I know, his shell is pyramided from years of a bad diet :( He didn't bask enough in the winter either while I was gone so his shell was in bad shape, you can see all the shedding going on in those pictures (he's turning a handsome black under all those shedding scutes). I'm lucky he's never gotten sick! And yeah, might try turnip greens for him sometime. I tried dandelion leaves one time but he just spit them out and wouldn't eat them, might try them again. :)
