Hey. My Name is Jonathan, and I'm going to introduce my two turtles to you. I got both of them together on October 2005, and they were three years old at the time. Now they have grown quite a bit, and they have massive appetites! For the first few months I just fed them pellets, but then I realized that they needed a balanced diet, so I started feeding them tomatoes and Romaine Lettuce. They seem to be popular amongst those two! They are quite playful, but they still aren't that used to me yet, and it is quite a pain to get them out of their tank when I clean it! Well, anyways, thanks for reading about my turtles! :)

Each turtle has it's own personality... some never outgrow their shyness while others can be very outgoing.

Some say hand-feeding is a good way to get them used to you. It's because you become associated with food to them - "The Food Person".

Simply letting my turtle see me daily and some gentle handling at tank cleaning time is all I've ever done and he comes running to the top of the tank whenever I (or my husband) enters the room.

Patience is probably the best thing to have with them. :)

Thanks Sonja! That really helped. Just another thing...um, would my turtle(s) bite me at all if I hand-fed them?

 That is most definitely a possibility... that's why I've never hand fed but my husband has at times.

yes feed them, stare at them and be around them, they'll eventually know your "safe" and you are the food provider, pretty soon they're gonna pratically claw at the glass at you when they see you till food is given haha

Welcome. If for veggies all they're getting is tomatoes and romaine, it would be good to expand on that--carrots, pumpkin, dandelions, red leaf lettuce, etc.
