Hi there everyone...

I am a mother of 2 kids... and 18 pets!

My son got a tiny red eared slider turtle when he was 7 (5 years ago) and now it is HUGE. We just got a new giant tank for it and though Mr. Turtle seems healthy and happy we surely know less about this pet than our mice, hamsters, lizard, birds, and fish!

I was told when we got it that it was a male... but just today I think it laid an egg!

Well, I'm looking forward to learning more!

If you'd like help with ing your turtle, post a picture, and we should be able to help you out if it's 7+ years old.

Why if it is 7+ years old?

We got the turtle when it was tiny - and that was exactly 5 years ago. If it was an inch or so when we got it, does that mean it was a newborn? How large are they when they are hatched?

so, the turtle is over 7, correct? It should be mature enough to be able to tell it's gender

We got the turtle 5 years ago when my SON was 7. So the turtle is about 5 years old. I had thought it was a male because that's what we were told. But I am now VERY sure it is a female based on the photos I've seen here, and that it laid and EGG!

Welcome. Hopefully members will get help (or be directed where to go for help) for turtles of any age...Laying eggs leaves no doubt that you have a female. :)
