Hello everyone. My name is Jamie, and I have just become a new red eared slider turtle owner. I know a guy through my work who has a rescue habitat for the RES turtle, and I had mentioned how I was interested in owning one. I have wanted a turtle ever since I was a little kid (I'm 24 now....), but at the time it wasn't legal to own a turtle here in Maine.

A few days ago he called me to let me know a family had just brought in a 5/6 year old RES turtle to the humane society and didn't want it anymore (their kids didn't want her anymore), so he let me know she was mine.

So far I have had Tardy (named after the turtle from the show "Greg The Bunny") since Saturday, and she has been pretty neat to watch and take care of.

I joined mainly to ask some questions about the care and tank setup needed for a RES, but I will ask them in the appropriate forum.

I'm glad to be here, and look forward to seeing everyones turtles.

Welcome :-) I assume your friend from the rescue filled you in on the basic requirements?

Yes, definately. He said they are alot of work, but he gave me alot of info and tips, and I also have a book on caring for and maintaining my RES.

So far so good though. Day 4 and she's still doing good, so I must be doing something right hehe!!

By the way, I noticed your quote and your turtles names! I used to be a HUGE Aerosmith fan when I was younger. I saw them on tour in '94....oh so long ago, but it was an awsome concert. Good to see some people are still fans.

Hehe. My music taste has changed a little since '94, I listen to a little less Aerosmith, and a little more Eminem and Hip Hop/ Rap now... I still enjoy the Aerosmith I grew up with, but I just don't listen to them as much as I used to.

Still a fantastic band though, and Steven Tyler is one hell of a performer and singer. I wouldn't mind seeing them again.

Yeah, he plays a mean microphone. I actually just saw them last month. He's still the Demon of Screamin...you'd never know he just had throat surgery.

Jen, did you hear that Steven Tyler is Hep C positive? I read that on CNN a few weeks ago I think.

Yes I did. Sad, but apparently he's been living without symptoms for 3 years. Just started treatment this year.
