Two weeks ago, a local Shelter found themselves with a RES. They contacted all the area Shelters asking for help with it. I rescue rabbits but, said "what the heck" and went and got Mr. Turtle. I did not expect to find a 7 1/2 monster, sitting in a foul smelling tank, waiting for me!! First thing we did before coming home was go to the Vet. Mr. Turtle has SCUD and other shell issues (really wrinkely shell) which I was told was caused by poor food and living conditions. Then we got a tank, food, rocks, filter, and light. Came home & set up the tank (I use bottle water). Mr. Turtle did nothing, for a week, but swim!! He hardly ate and did not bask. Then, suddenly, he emerged from the water and basked. I had bought 10 feeder guppies and 2 tadpoles, in the beginning. He ate 8 of the fish & 1 of the tadpoles. Anyway
in the last 3 days he has consumed 43 fish!! Coming here, I see that I have to limit his fish consumption. He has nibbled on the plants. So, here I am, hoping to make his life better & healthier.

It's like Mr. Turtle has emerged from a dark tunnel into the light. Good for you for giving him a chance to live like a normal, healthy turtle.
