The UVB bulb does not emit enough heat. That is why UVA should be included as well. You can use a household clamp lamp for the UVA sources.
Remember that your water temperature and basking temperature should be about 10 degrees apart.
Water = 75-78 (depending on your turtle's size)
Basking = mid to high 80s / 10 degrees higher than the water temp.

...not necessary to curse. (its been censored.) I once did a water change and forgot to unplug the heater, made myself a nice mess. Anyway, heaters are pretty cheap, but filters and UVB lights will rack up the bills.

I am just getting started, too, Glencoe! I am one of those people that usually OVER prepares for a pet. I studied gliders a year before getting one. Therefore, having a pet that I am woefully unprepared for is a NEW THING for me. But well, I won him and was not expecting ANYTHING! I am excited and nervous at the new undertaking, though.
