Ferd, I strongly urge you to get an appropriate stand for your tank. Water is approximately 8.3 pounds a gallon and a glass tank is fairly heavy as well. Plus those large rocks look heavy too! Remember, a tank should be completely empty before you move it.
If you include after, then it will show up in your posts. You might have to make the pictures a bit smaller so it would fit into people's browsers.
People in the past have used chicken wire, and molded it around the edge of the tank so it stays put. Other use another kind of metal covering from the hardware store, and I can't put a name on it right now.
I personally don't have anything covering that area. I removed the section of glass that covers that part of the aquarium and layed the light bar across it.
edit - hardware cloth is the other...I came across it in another post.
I was the one who posted that, and to my knowledge, there aren't any pet screens made for aquarium tops that come that large. I could be wrong though. Check with your local pet stores, they would be able to tell you about availability in your area.
In my old tank, I had a screen with holes bigger than 1/2inch. There's a store in London called SuperPet, but I'm not sure if it's in other cities. If it is, try there.
