Hi everyone. I've had my turtle for about a month now and his (i think he is a boy from what I can tell) name is George. As far as I can tell he is doing fairly well and seems generally happy (except for when I move him to the rubbermaid container when I clean his tank once a week). Being a fish owner and a previous lizard owner, I'm decently knowledgable on tanks, water conditions, filters, heating, cleaning, basking and feeding. George is a pretty good turtle and hasn't even hissed at me yet, let alone tried to bite me. He also seems to only beg when he is hungry. I'm feeding him reptomin pellets and also adding some dried shrimp (reptomin as well) a couple times of week as a treat. I tried both lettuce and apples, but he didnt' seem interested in either. I made his basking area out of rocks with a nice smooth rock for the basking platform and an angled rock as a ramp (though he still only basks when no one is in the room). George also seems to enjoy digging alot. I don't know if this is normal, but he does it on a regular basis. He likes to sleep in the corner leaning against the tank or sitting on the angled rock that leads up to the basking platform.

Digging! Um what is he digging in?! If you have pebbles in your tank, you better get rid of them. He'll eat 'um up and they don't come out so easy. :)
Who ever said turtles were slow?

I have the larger rocks, but he still digs at them and pushes them around.

Digging is normal. My turtle always insists on redecorating her own tank.

We have a war going, every week i clean the tank and straighten the rocks, and then he digs out the corner again.

We just got the two little turtles yesterday and only remained nameless for about 1 hour. My kids (11 & 7) name them Rob & Big, just like the guys on that MTV show, Rob and Big. We shall see if they actually are males.
