Post Posted: Sat Dec 15, 2007 11:08 pm   hello!

Hi. I'm Rifat and I am the owner of...now 3 red eared sliders. I am sad to say I had 4 but as of today I have 3  one passed away today. I was truly heart-broken.

My brother bought the first two, Gary and Tony we named them, 16 months ago. He doesn't take care of them and I did not want them to die because of his idiocy so I became their sole caregiver. Oh I fell in love, they are the sweetest. After a while they understand when people came near, it meant food, but everyone thought the turtles were excited to see them. haha If I held a little shrimp, one of their FAVORITE food, they would stretch their neck and open their mouth.

Then I went away this past summer and directly after a year after buying the first 2, my (stupid) brother bought the other two, who were dwarfed next to Gary, the original, he grew FAST! So I was away and my father took care of them and he learned to adore them. So for the last 4 months, I've had 4 and now one of them died, she was just ...floating there. This is reminds me why I don't want to keep pets. I LOVE animals but I'm always so sad when they die. My brothers always bring pets and leave me to take care of them and love them and...sadly be the one that feels like crap when they get sick or die. I'm so busy with college, I can't always give them the best care but I try.

SO HELLO, fellow red eared slider LOVERS! That ^^^ was my story. :D

Welcome to the forum! Your avatar is huge! Can you please resize it?

And I would be very careful. Are you keeping all the turtles together? The big ones can really hurt the smaller ones. What size tank are you keeping them in?

hi! oops sorry, how embarrassing! i'll resize it right now. i thought i put in the smaller one. thanks!! :D sorry again.

well they actually get along very well. the little ones are fond of climbing onto the bigger one's back and taking him for a ride. =D I was worried about them too but none of my turtles are aggressive. :)

you can keep big turtles and small turtles together...just make sure they respect each other and have enough space.

It really isn't a good idea to keep turtles of reasonably different sizes together. The bigger ones can hurt, or even kill the little ones without even knowing what they are doing. There was just a sad story posted about a bigger turtle that probably broke the smaller turtles leg, without even realizing it. :(

same thing with mine they all seem to get along or at least respect each other

they don't push each other out of the way to get to food or anything!!

I make sure they each have enough food for themselves.
