Hello:)
My nephew's mom bought him 2 RES about a week ago. I knew they need lots of care so I researched and ended up on this great website. I love it and like all of you I just want to make them happy and see them grow healthy. They are about 1inch in lenght. I have them in a 20gallon tank. They have pellets, but all they love to eat is Solid White Albacore. I've never seened them eat anything else. Is that bad? I've tried giving them some melon and carrots. They have a nice basking area with some heat. Don't have the UBV yet. So I put them outside in the sun with some shade to go along with. No filter yet, but I will be buying one soon

ANY tips would be great! :)

Here are some pics of one of them. The other one loves hidding from view

Hello and welcome!

Your turtles are very cute! What are their names?

Read through the habitat and diet sections. They have good tips on enticing picky turtles to eat more healthy foods. An albacore only diet is too high in protein, and is lacking other important nutrients and will lead to shell problems, so you'll need to get them eating pellets (and hopefully veggies!) as soon as possible.
Feel free to post some pictures of their set up and to look at other people's tanks to get alternative set up ideas to maximize turtle swimming space. RES are natural swimmers and the more room to swim, the happier and healthier they are!

Stop feeding them meat!! I accidentally fed my turtles turkey for months on end before I discovered this site. Their shell is in pretty bad condition and they have minor pyramiding. Tuna, shrimp, or poultry should be used as a once a month treat.

For more information on proper nutrition see the main site:

You're also eventually going to need a bigger tank. They grow fast!

They're both completely adorable though! ^_^

Thanks guys :)
I named them Peaches and Cream. I bought them new pellets and they've begun eating them. Also bought them some dried shirmp for ocasional treats. They have also begun to eat their Lettuce. I used a chapstick top to cut a perfect circle lettuce. So I can know if they have touched it and they have :)

They love to bask! they bask togheter 2 so that is really cool

Have many plans for the future as they grow :)

Turtles are growing fast :) they love to eat! They eat from my hands and they love sleeping together. Their set up has improved. I now have both a uva and uvb for them. A nice basking rock and artificial water lettuce. Along with alot of water all the way to the top. I feed them outside(don't have a filter yet :( feading them inside causes on big mess!

I will post pictures this week to mark their 1st month. I hope to do this every month so you guys can see the growth
