I have to say, I am really excited about finding this website. The information here is very helpful to any RES owner who wants the best for their little treasure.

My RES Story:
I have to admit that I did not know how to properly care for my very first RES, Art, and he did not make it very long. I also think that getting the little thing from chinatown in NY was not the best of ideas either, he may have already been sick...
Then a few years later a friend of mine brought a tiny one home from the very same place. They are so irresistable darn it! Shortly after she became pregnant and was told she could not handle such a small turtle for fear of disease. That is how I inherited him, well she thought it was a girl at first, but I changed the name from Lilly to Slyde. He is about 3 years old now and doing wonderfully thanks to this website and the information found within...I am very greatful and I am sure that Slyde is too! :D

We recently (permanently) upgraded his tank from 29 gal to 90 gal and wow what an expense! Everything adds up and before you know it you have spent $800!! It was well worth it the moment we dropped him in and he sunk to the bottom, looked around like "what the heck?", and about a half hour later he had only managed to explore 1/3 of the tank!! He was so cute about it...

I will post pictures in the indoor tank section soon...

THANKS!!!
1 RES- Slyde
2 Boston Terriers- Lilo & Marley (RIP Jada, I miss you so very much)

Welcome to the site bidd991! I too bought my RES from Chinatown NYC and without any instruction on how to care for them. Luckily I found this site too, it's a gem.
It's great you have a 90 gal. It sure beats upgrading everytime they get bigger. $800 sounds like a lot now, but I bet you save in the long run.
