My wife and I have been taking care of abandoned RES for about 7 years now. We first built a 600 gallon pond in our backyard, and when we moved a few years later, we were excited to find a place that would allow us to build a 3-chambered, 2000 gallon pond for them!
We have received homeless RES from the San Diego Turtle and Tortoise Society and take calls from our vet when they have a turtle in need of a home. We really love taking care of them, and I am glad to have found this forum so we can learn even more!
Today we have 13 RES from the society, vets and referrals from friends and family that could no longer take care of them. I have set up a webcam in the backyard that allows us to pan, tilt and zoom in on the pond and entire yard. (it turns off at night).
