Hi,
I am a Gr.4 teacher that just adopted/rescued a turtle from another teacher, who, sadly and shamefully, completely ignored this beautiful animal. My students are very excited about our new class member and will be using this site to do their research project on RES. Hope to talk to you all soon!

Welcome! That's awesome. You will learn a lot from the forum as well as the main site. I know me and my own children have learned so much since we've had Koopa so I can just imagine all the great things your students will learn. Just ask if you have any questions. :D

Welcome newbie! I think it's exciting that the kids will be doing research about their new class member. It will give them some real insight into nature. Sounds like it will be a lot of fun, too. This is undoubtably the best site, and the people on this forum are awesome, so your kids will learn a lot.

Welcome to Turtle Talk :)
It's great teaching children about these amazing creatures. I'm a junior in high school and am in a Child Development class, currently learning about 2,3,4, and 5 years old. When the kids come in January to our playgroup/day care, each of us has to do a lesson plan. I picked turtles :D
I got permission to bring on about two turtles to the lesson days, but no touching of course.
I'm thinking of bringing my two res, since they are most common.

Hi 4SL! I am so happy that Pearl has an owner that cares so much about her. You are her guardian angel and she is very lucky to have you!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am definitely learning a lot this week, with the help of this great site and all of you! Good news: Pearl actually ate today for the first time in at least a week (probably more, as I found moldy food in her tank a week and a half ago when she was still in the other class). She had a couple pieces of lettuce and broccoli, then 5 small shrimp. My students were so excited, they were jumping in their seats, exclaiming "Now she's not going to die!" I hope they're right.
Thanks again for all your support,
Pearl and 4SL

A belated welcome. :) Staying away from the broccoli would be good. Try to get Pearl eating more leafy greens, especially dandelion leaves, red leaf lettuce, chicory, things of that nature. Feeding a reputable pellet would help provide balance in the diet. Food like shrimp can be an occasional treat. (It's good that Pearl's eating anything for now, though).
