Hi everyone!

I am grateful to have found this resource. My mother-in-law brought two baby RES turtles over for an "easter present" for my two younger children (aged 3 and 5 years) without our consent. At first I was irritated as she did not bring any equipment nor advice on how to take care of them. But after spending hours on the Internet and almost $200, I think I am now capable of taking care of them. My children are far too young for such a responsibility so I am now the sole caregiver of the turtles (named InOut and LittleShell by the kids). And while I was originally quite resistant/hesitant, I have now started to enjoy them (except the constant tank cleanings!) They have started to recognise me and even beg for food (I have a hard time not dropping in a little shrimp treat).

I look forward to reading the posts here as I have much to learn.

Thanks,

Turtle Daddy

Welcome to the forum... :)

What kind of set-up do you have them in now? If you have any pics of the little guys(or gals) we'd love to see them. :)

Welcome! You can avoid constant water changes if you invest in a decent filter. Usually aim for one that is rated 3 times the size of the tank. Turts are messier than fish. We love to see pics you if get a chance!

Welcome!!!
I wasn't hesitant at all when I got my turts....my parents on the other hand...
haha

Turtles can be way too messy. They're worth it though.
The bigger the tank the longer it tends to stay clean.
Also, I just invested in my first filter.
I liked it so much I even bought one for my frogs.
lol
The filter is worth the money.

if you look in the photo gallery there is a sticky on the top that says how to post a picture
Try to be like the turtle -- at ease in your own shell.
