Post Posted: Wed Oct 11, 2006 1:06 am   Hi my name is...

Hello,

Angela here and a new owner of 2 red eared sliders, and I'm so glad I
found this site.
A friend is getting married soon and going on a 3-4 month
honeymoon, so he was looking for a new home for his turtles.

I have 2 daughters that already wanted turtles, so I told him I would give
them a home. He said they were very easy to care for. After reading up
on them, I'm starting to think there is more to it than he knew. I've had them since saturday
and I already have so many questions.
Some I have had answered by reading through a lot of the posts on this
site. I have had reptiles, snakes and fish so, I'm not going into this totally
blind. After the complete water change from moving the tank, the male
doesn't appear the same.

A posting is soon to follow with many questions, I'm sure will get
answered.

Thank you in advance for everyones help, and thank you for this site.

Angela

Welcome Angela! Very commendable to take on the 2 RES. Once you get the equipment and feeding down, it's not hard at all to take care of them, and they are such a joy to own! How big are the turts? Measure shell length without the curve. How old are your daughters? They will be able to learn and help take care of them with you.
What is different about the male since the water change?

We may need to continue this discussion in another topic, such as General Care. I'll keep an eye out for your future posts.

Yeah, I was going to try and take a picture of them and the environment
they have been living in to post with my questions.

They seemed to be well taken care of, though I have read tonight that
goldfish are bad and my friend said he would put some in the tank occasionlly
to let the turtles eat them.

He never mentioned anything about cuttlebone or adding water treatments.
So, yeah I'll post soon to the general care section. I'm still reading through
past questions to find answers so, my questions aren't too repititous.
Thanks

Sorry, Shavannah I missed this question last night. My daughters are
7 and 4. They are more than willing to help!
I'm off to post in the general care forum and I got pictures too.
