Post Posted: Fri Jan 05, 2007 2:00 am   Just wanted to introduce me and my new buddy

First off, my name is Geno and my wife's name is Shauna. We live in Phoenix, Az. I was born here and I am 32 yrs old.

Now to the good stuff.

How & why I found you all.
Well we just got back from a 2 week X-mas & New Year vacation and had to pick our pets up. Our dog was at my dad's and our cat was at a friends house (Jodie), Jodie is an old friend of mine & co-worker of my wife (Shauna). When we got to Jodie's house, he handed my wife Shauna, a cup of water with a 1.5" RES in it.

I asked why a turtle?

The responce Jodie gave was,"well Shauna is always worried about mine (Jodie's RES is 5" and about 4 years old" and he has it at work), so now she could worry about her own".

What is Shauna's is mine and whats mine is hers. She has been sick since we got back from vacation, so I did some searching on this lill' guys lifestyle. After a google search, I found YOU ALL...

I must say, after the amount of TIME and MONEY (about 2days & $150), we decided the lill' 1.5" turtle needed a name. We came up with Pokey. lol

I am SO GLAD this site is here for turtle owners. Untill I found you all, I thought Pokey just needed a bowl of water and some food.
After staying up untill 2am this morning reading all the info here, I was SHOCKED. Pokey's gonna need alot of attention and care we want him to live a healthy life.

So far we have had Pokey for 2 days, and today we moved pokey from his 8 cup bowl, to his 92qt. Rubber Maid Tote.
He now has a temp. controled swimming/feeding pool equipt with fake plants, heat lamp on a timer, Tetra Whisper Power Filter rated for 30-60 gal., and a docking station large enough for an entire family. A few hours ago, I tossed 6 feeder guppies in and he ate the slow one within 5 min. I sure hope Pokey will live a healthy life.

Thanks for all this GREAT INFO that you are willing to share. I will post pics. as soon as my camera charges.

Thanks,
Geno & Shauna,
1.5" RES (Pokey)
4" Pictus Catfish (Charlie)
Silverback Persian cat (Mow-Mow)
15yr old Queensland Heeler (Khu-Fu)

Ok, I got some pics loaded.

When we first got him, he was in a coffee cup. We moved him into this 4 cup appartment.

That night I felt bad for him and put this together

After reading about his kind, on this site, I invested some $$$ on this set up.

He looks so happy, He basks, swims, eats and HIDES! lol
He was basking as I walked up with the camera, as soon as he saw me, he went BLOOP, right back into the water. :)

For some reason, I can open the first image - the 4 cup apartment - but I can't open the others.

That's one tiny turtle! That last setup should last him/her for several months. It looks very nice, and you little guy looks very happy. It's amazing how well you can spruce up a plastic storage bin!
