Hi Everyone. My name is Angela. My boyfriend and I recently purchased two baby RES. My roommate had bought a couple for her daughters and I wanted my own. We had NO idea what we were getting ourselves into! My boyfriend and I have been trying to do a bunch of research and are quickly trying to build up a proper home for them. My roommate's daughters' turtles are rooming with ours. So far so good. Two week in and we have a small 10 gallon aquarium with an underwater filter, one rock that doubles as a cave, a basking rock and a heat/UVA light. Waiting for pay day to get a UVB light, water heater and other stuff.

Our turtles are named Pookie and Paco. They are both slightly over an 1” and love to swim around.

Any tips, advice or anything. Write me!

Thanks!

I would suggest gettin a bigger tank for them than a 10 gallon. I have my RES in a 30 gallon rubbermaid container since i am kinda short on funds and it serves its purpose. Heater, Filters, UVB lighting. NO GRAVEL!!
Read around the site and you will get the idea. just like xsavingsaturdayx said. i thought all i needed was a tank and some food and he would be fine. boy was i wrong. not quite 300 bux, but after finding this site and a few bucks later Norman has a better home. Your turts are soo cute. Goodluck wit them and welcome to our community. Im sure you will find this place VERY helpful.

I started like you also...a small flea market red ear bought for my son...figure a small tank with water and some pellets and we were good...now I have tanks everywhere, it's so easy to get addicted! LOL

I use alot of rubbermaid also, they work better then glass tanks, the turt's seem to see the fogged sides as real walls and don't try to go through them as much. Also cheaper to get....a 50 gallon tank here is over $100 while a 50 gallon rubbermaid was $20. And the kids can't break them! LOL So cute turtles, enjoy them while they are small, they grow fast.
