Hello Everyone!

I am very happy to have found this site. My daughter, who just turned 11, received a RES as a birthday gift from her Aunt. My Aunt has TONS of pets and LOVES to give "live" gifts to all the kids! My daughter has wanted a turtle for about 3 years now. Originally, I had told my Aunt that it was OK to get her new pets to add to her aquarium. She was looking for the really little turtles that go in there, and found out she couldn't get them. So she took Elizabeth, my daughter, to the pet store, and well, she fell in love with the RES! My husband and I gave in, but we were very unprepared when we brought our new family member home last night. I was on the internet doing research to set up a happy home for the turle when I found this site. The turtle is a male as far as we know, and is named Camo. We had a large aquarium in our basement, which we had a tegu in a couple of years ago. When we brought it upstairs though, it had a large crack in the bottom. Now we are hurrying to find another large aquarium. Camo is in a large plastic tote, with rocks and a basking lamp right now. Anyway, I hope to get some good advice, and do some "turtle talking" with all of you. All of our pets are considered a member of our family and we love them!

Welcome to the forum! Keeping RES is a lot of work, but it can be a great learning tool for your child!
