Hello all, my name is Mitch. I just got female Red ear last week. She is about 8" long and her name is Jeniffer. She is a really a cool pet, and I spoil her. I have been a fresh water fish guy for a long time , and had a Red ear Slider when I was a kid in Florida. Her Housing has been upgraded from her last owner. She has a 30 gal tank ( soon to be a 55 gal ) a nice filter, and a TurtleDock for basking. I got her a new basking light she really likes it.
She gets Earthworms, TurtleBites, and some greens weekly. Her water is changed every 3-4 days. I look forward to taking care of my girl for years to come........

Hi and welcome! Congratulations on your new addition! You may want to get a larger tank for her, those ladies can get really big, a good rule of thumb is 10 gallons for every inch of shell. Read up on all the info on redearslider.com, there is so much good stuff to learn! We'd love to see some pictures of Jennifer!

Greetings! There's no such thing as spoiling your slider too much. We all do it!

And do check out the specifications on tank size. Your girl, while huge already, is just going to get bigger. A big female can top out at 12", though an inch or two smaller seems to be more common. As long as you are at it, you might think about sizing the tank for the long run.
