So last night, one of my turtles was swimming lopsided, and refused to eat. He struggled to open his mouth, as there was a thin layer of almost transparent stuff on his lips. I put him in a separate place, afraid that the other turtle would catch it too. I'm giving the sick one medication right now.

Anyways, my question is whether or not I should clean out the whole tank just in case. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure how RI is transmitted, but i would definitely clean out the tank and filter really well. It might be good to talk to the vet about treating the other ones as well, as they might have it and just not be showing symptoms yet.

I'm afraid the answer to your question is an emphatic yes. The bugs that cause RI are probably still lurking about. Keep a close eye on the healthy one. A turtle can go for quite a while with an infection before showing symptoms. That's why the quarantine period before a new turtle is moved into the tank is so long (90 days).

I'm so sorry to year one of your turtles is ill. What kind of medication is he taking?
