I use sand an large river rock in all mine. Sand working great for me, i've had lil problem keeping it clean an my turtles seem to realy enjoy it.

if your like me though an ya dun like the look of bare bottom tanks, I sujest getting Crushed coral , like the kind that goes in saltwater tanks. If your turtle eats it it wont be a problem cuz the crushed coral disolves in any form of acid. An your turt would be able to obsorb a bit of calsium from it to ;).

Its good ta hear that your turts passing the stones. :D
When you're a deadite skeleton, life isn't filled with a lot of options. So they make the best of it by playing dead – Which is why we like to introduce them to Mr. Shotgun, who doesn't give them the opportunity to pretend there anything but Chalk.

On the crushed coral, that's an interesting idea and it's probably pretty but I'd recommend against it. It raises the ph of the water quite a bit. That's good for a saltwater tank but not for a turtle tank since high ph favors fungus which is a big problem with our turtle shells. If you really want to use it, however, just be sure it's fine like sand in case the turtle eats some. The small pieces would likely dissolve in the turtle's stomach faster than big pieces would.

And I agree that's good news about your turtles passing the stones!
