I am curious is you have all of your turtles in the same tank? Do you know the gender? I have read that females are more aggressive than males, and that turtels are typically loners, prefering to be alone and not see other turtles around or near them. This can lead to aggression. I am experiencing this issue with my three turtles(2 male & 1 female). I had seperated one male and the female and while it become lessened, the aggresion still continued. Now I have the two males together and it is actuall worse for one turtle, he must be the passive one for he has never attacked the others. They will bite tails, toes, nails and it can lead to a turtles death. Only a few options, seperate all of them, a couple and see what happens or find the aggressive one and give him away. Not great options but I have to probably give one away...wish I would have found this site first for it is very imformative.

Okay, if you are sure that the turtle did it to themselves, you need to check to see if they are bleeding or if they are fine. If they are bleeding, try to stop the bleeding with a little gauze or paper towel and apply a little Neosporin or similar topical medicine. Allow it to fully dry and then put them back in the water.

You probably want to know why they did it. Maybe they mistook their food for hand, though doubtfully. Maybe they were bored. Maybe they are missing something in their diet. Do you give them cuttlebone? Sometimes a cuttlebone distraction helps out in these cases.
