hello friend,

i m in seek of a urgent help for my RES, I m Pranjal from India i own 4 RES in which one had died last week as i was unable to identify his disease, friend plz do suggest me
as i don't know anything about RES, i bought 4 of them from a pet store in the month of october
the one RES who lost away his symptoms were he always used to sit beside the water tank and sleep away his major routine was to come out when i used to feed him until he used to slept away inside the water finally he lost away last week,seeking this one of the RES among left 3 RES is behaving unconditional, its difficult for me to understand
the major food they used to eat is TUBIFEX WORMS and shrimp meal,wheat flour,yellow corn,soyabean meal, thrice a day
i generally used to keep my RES away from each other,
At night naer 11 P.M or till 12 Pm i just used to take away all three away from the water in a clean dry container,and early in the morning near 6 M i used to put back into the water
in the afternoon i generally used to take away the three into the direct sunlight as someone tell me that that they worship sunlight,


I need ur help bcoz in our state no vet uses to cure turtle so plz help me out in providing me the best solution either the home cure or just by the common antibiotics medicine which can affect them

as i previously told u that in between three of them one is behaving improperly,he also uses to sit inside the water and feel asleep over their with about 6-7 hours sleep also i seems that he is uncomfortable while swimming,when i used to put him in sunlight i noticed that his eyes is little swollen,and a sticky water is coming from his eyes ,when the RS is totally dried it seems that a white powder exists near his eye lids,he is also not eating properly,he is not at all active when i used to put him in a dry place rather then moving he uses to put his head inside his shell


plz friend im trouble bcoz i don't want to losse them,as lack of vets is the major problem
plz do suggest me what should i do to cure him....................

other than that my habitat is upto the mark it has an artificial UVB for light and 40-50 gallons of water in an tank so that they can swim well

Well, here's what I can suggest:

1. The food you're giving is not suitable for turtles. For hatchlings, they need
pellets daily (as much as what'll fit inside head excluding neck, approximately).
Vegetables can be offered anytime. For adults, pellets once every two days
(same amount, what'll fit in the head), and vegetables daily. One of the
recommended pellets brands is Reptomin.

2. You don't need to take out the turtles to a dry place every night. In fact, that's
not a good thing to do. It stresses out your turtles. RES is an aquatic turtle, it
lives mostly in water and it sleeps in water too. RES doesn't really like to be
handled much, it causes stress.

3. It's good that you have UVB. You should have a basking area under the
UVB bulb. You also need a heat source coupling the UVB to entice basking.
The basking area should be able to dry your turtles' bottom plastron as well.
UVB has no effect if you don't have a basking area because it doesn't penetrate
water. If you have UVB and proper basking area, you don't need to bask your
turtles under the sun regularly.

4. For swollen eyes, you can try putting some cod liver oil (available in
pharmacies) using a cotton swab on the eyelids. However, first you just need
to make sure their food is adequate and not too much. That'll provide enough
vitamins, protein, and mineral to make healthy turtles. If the eyes don't
improve after a few days, you can try the cod liver oil.

5. Proper habitat includes healthy water with adequate filtration. You didn't
mention any filtration for your tank. Besides, 40-50 gallons of water is not
really enough for 3 turtles. You may want to separate them for the risk of
aggression later on.

Separate the ill turtle from the healthy ones. Watch it closely for about a week.
If the condition doesn't improve, you need to visit a vet. If it turns out that the
turtle gets respiratory infection, only a vet can administer the correct dosage of
antibiotic for your turtle.
