Urgent Care :: how many eggs can African side necked turtles lay

Hello I am getting 3 African side necked turtles two females one male all able to breed the person I am getting them from said that the females laid 53 eggs all tho 39 hatch can they have that may eggs what is the usual number of eggs

I can't answer your question about African side necked, but I do know that the number of eggs depends on the size/age of the female. As a female gets older, she will lay larger clutches.

So two questions are how big was the female your breeder had and how large is yours? Not that I could tell you how many eggs you could see even with that info, but perhaps someone could.

Not sure of age but double size of a mud turtle

Not sure on exactly average for them is but just going by other species that can be normal or actually low. If he means 53 produced in a year that would be good amount as females can lay multiple clutches of eggs. Usually most turtles lay two clutches 10 eggs at one time and then lay another 10 eggs 2 weeks later.

So 20-30eggs for one. Still possible I wouldnt rule it out.
